Embrace the Vibrancy and Warmth of Spring Colours

Guided by insights from Catherine Kingdon, Product Development Manager at FRANKIE4, we’ve entered the colour analysis lab to focus on the warm and clear hues of Spring. Whether you're a Light Spring, Warm Spring, or Bright Spring, we’ll provide tips on how to embrace your natural vibrancy and incorporate these stunning colours into your wardrobe throughout the year.

Get ready to welcome the warmth and brightness that comes with the Spring palette, helping you look and feel your best every season with these Spring wardrobe tips.

What is the Spring Colour Palette?

Spring is all about warmth, brightness, and clarity. People with Spring colouring radiate with warm or bright, fresh tones that reflect the lively energy of the season, creating a glowing, sunny appearance when done right. Think of the blooming flowers, fresh greenery, and golden sunlight of a spring day—that’s your palette.

There are three main subcategories of the Spring palette: Light Spring, Warm Spring, and Bright Spring. While all share similar features, the intensity and depth of the colours differ slightly. Let’s start our Spring colour analysis by exploring each type in detail.

Light Spring: Bright and Delicate Hues

Light Spring is usually characterised by lighter, fresher, and more delicate shades. If you have Light Spring colouring, your skin is most commonly light with a peachy or golden undertone (not a cool undertone), and your hair ranges from light blonde to soft brown. Celebrities like Taylor Swift, Kristen Bell, and Nicole Kidman are great examples of Light Springs, radiating with soft, light features that glow in bright, clear colours.

Key Colours for Light Spring:

  • Soft Pinks: Coral pink, peachy blush, and watermelon are your go-to shades for lips and accessories.

  • Warm Pastels: Think of soft yellows, mint green, light turquoise, sky blues, and periwinkle for your wardrobe basics.

  • Clear, Warm Whites: Steer clear of stark, icy whites and opt for warmer, creamier shades that blend with your natural warmth.

Catherine suggests incorporating these colours into your wardrobe by focusing on pieces that feel fresh and airy, like light linen blouses, pastel dresses, and airy scarves. Light Spring is all about keeping your look soft and glowing,” says Catherine. “You want colours that complement your brightness without overwhelming your delicate features.

Styling Tips for Light Spring:
  • Keep your accessories in softer tones like gold, peach, or light pink.
  • In the warmer months, go for flowy, lightweight fabrics like chiffon or linen.

  • Avoid dark, heavy colors, as they can weigh down your natural brightness.

Warm Spring: The Quintessential Springtime Colouring

True Spring or Warm Spring is the quintessential spring palette, characterised by warm, bright, and clear hues. If you're a Warm Spring, your complexion has a slight yellow undertone and glows in warm undertones. Your features come alive with vibrant, sunny shades like golden yellows, bright corals, clear greens, and turquoise. True Springs radiate in colours that mimic the natural vibrancy of a spring day, and lighter neutrals like cream and camel work best as your base. Strawberry blonde celebrities like Amy Adams and Jessica Chastain embody the Warm Spring palette, often glowing in bright, cheerful tones that enhance their natural warmth.

Key Colours for Warm Spring:

  • Clear, Warm Whites: Opt in favour of warmer shades like ivory or buttermilk. These tones blend seamlessly with your warm undertones and create a soft, inviting look.

  • Bright, Sunny Shades: Incorporate bright shades like citrus, bright blue, and scarlet into your wardrobe for a cheerful pop of colour. These hues resonate with the lively essence of the Warm Spring palette.

  • Earthy Accents: Consider earthy tones like warm beige, light tan, and soft browns to balance your vibrant colours and ground your outfits. These shades provide versatility and work well for layering in transitional seasons.

Catherine’s top tip for this colour season subcategory? “True Spring thrives in a wardrobe that mirrors the brightness and warmth of the season, keeping your look fresh and radiant year-round.

Styling Tips for Warm Spring:
  • Opt for clothing in bright, clear colours that enhance your skin's warm undertones, like dresses in vibrant coral or sunny yellow.
  • Accessorize with warm gold jewellery to complement your colour palette.

  • In colder months, layer with outerwear in warm camel or ivory, avoiding darker tones that could overwhelm your colouring.

Bright Spring: Warm, Rich, and Vibrant Tones

Many Bright Spring individuals have warmer, deeper tones while still maintaining the overall warmth of the Spring palette. Your skin might have golden or olive undertones. Your hair is usually a rich, dark shade. It can be dark brown, golden blonde, or darker blonde. Emma Stone, Tessa Thompson and Issa Rae exemplify the Bright Spring palette, often glowing in rich, warm hues that bring out the intensity in their features.

Key Colours for Bright Spring:

  • Vibrant Corals and Reds: Coral, tomato red, and warm berry tones will make your complexion pop. Think of incorporating this into your look too; it’s easy to do with pairs like Blake Hot Pink Nubuck.

  • Rich Greens and Teals: Colours like moss green, olive, and deep turquoise are perfect for bringing out your warmth. For this, we’d recommend Spencer Spring Green.

  • Warm Neutrals: Instead of stark black or cool greys, try warmer neutrals like camel, chocolate brown, and warm beige.

  • Mix metallics, opting more for yellow gold, to emphasis your glow, for example by styling Malone Neutral Weave.

Catherine emphasises that Bright Springs should focus on rich, saturated hues that reflect their vibrant energy. “For Bright Springs, it’s all about embracing bold colour without losing the warmth”, she advises. She suggests finding statement pieces like tailored jackets or bold skirts in rich tones that work for both professional and casual settings.

Styling Tips for Bright Spring:
  • Add depth to your wardrobe with rich, textured fabrics like suede or leather.

  • Experiment with bold statement pieces in vibrant colours, like a deep red dress or emerald green coat.

  • Avoid overly pale or muted colours, as they can make your complexion appear washed out.

How to Discover Your Spring Colour Palette

If you’re unsure whether you’re a Light Spring, Warm Spring, or Bright Spring, look at how your skin reacts to different colours. Do pastels like peach and lavender bring out your natural glow? Or do you find that warmer, deeper colours like coral and emerald enhance your features? Consider working with a colour analyst to get professional insight, or you can experiment by holding different coloured fabrics near your face in natural light to see what complements your skin tone.

Catherine recommends keeping your look cohesive by building a seasonal capsule wardrobe. “By understanding your colour palette, you can create a wardrobe that effortlessly works for you throughout the year,” she explains. “In the warmer months, focus on light fabrics and soft colours for a breezy, easy-going feel.

Dressing for Spring Throughout the Year

While Spring seasons palettes naturally shine during the warmer months as warm toned colour types, you can carry these colours through the cooler seasons by choosing fabrics and textures that suit the weather. For instance, Light Springs can wear cream-colored knits and light scarves in winter, while Warm Springs can layer rich green jackets or burnt orange coats over their basics.

By focusing on the Spring palette colours that suit your natural colouring (skin, eyes, and hair), you’ll feel more confident and radiant year-round embracing these vibrant Spring shades. Stay tuned for the next part of our blog series, where we’ll explore the cool, soft tones of Summer colouring.
