Euro Winter: Nikki Parkinson’s Guide to Travelling & Style

09 Jun 2026

Euro winter travel on the cards? Nikki Parkinson, award-winning blogger, author, designer, and stylist takes us through her ultimate guide to what she wore and what to pack on your next trip.

Introducing Nikki Parkinson, award-winning blogger, author, creator of Styling You, journalist, designer, stylist, and long-time FRANKIE4 friend,

Welcome to Nikki’s Ultimate Euro Winter Guide

For more than 10 years I’ve been sharing on the internet what I pack for long and short haul trips. I don’t share as prescriptive advice but share how I do it as a potential starting point for others heading to the same or similar destination. EVERY time I do share, it brings out a collective of people, let’s call them “The Packing Police” who are aghast that I’ve packed too much. HAH, they don’t know me.

“Wow gee you’ve packed a lot.” Denise

“I’ve travelled the world including very cold countries and never packed more than 14kg checked luggage. Much less to hot destinations. You have to lift the bags!” Margaret

“No no no … I’m screaming from the couch … twice as much as you need but ah well you’ll find out dragging two suitcases over cobblestones up flights of stairs everywhere good luck 🥲😩” Jenny

Ironically and hilariously these comments were on a Facebook post where I tongue-in-cheek celebrated the fact that my checked luggage was “only” 21.7kg when the allowance was 40kg. My carry-on luggage (allowance two bags, 14kg total) came in at 10kg. For long-haul transit flights I always include in my carry-on an outfit and everything I need for my first day/night at the destination. It’s an insurance policy against the potential of my checked luggage not arriving with me.

Those who have actually seen my packing content over the past decade know this is a record for me! Yes, I unashamedly pack what half of my community would consider “too much”. And yes, there were many others in the comments who sit with me in their “need” to have options and extras while travelling.

“That’s impressive! I hit 30kg and got a heavy sticker of shame on my last trip 😂” Michelle

“Wow, only 27.1kg with winter clothing … I’m impressed!!👏👏 Anne

But perhaps it’s this comment that is the voice of reason and the mantra I live and pack by:

“It’s not my job and I would pack the same amount of… if you can manage, it’s your choice!” Merrilyn

It really is a PERSONAL choice. Packing is not a competition and it really shouldn’t be yet another thing that the women of the internet need to judge other women on the internet for.

What I do set out personally to achieve every time I travel is curate a considered travel wardrobe that, yes, will never be carry-on only simply because I love the theatre of Holiday Theme Dressing (a phrase coined more than a decade ago by the Queen of HTD Zoe Foster-Blake).

For each trip, I follow these tried, tested and true tips for packing for any destination at any time of year. Whether you fall into either the maximalist or minimalist packing camps, these tips still apply.
